The Ultimate Miami Wine Bar Guide – The First Edition: By Locals

Miami wine bar hopping may be easier than you think with our ultimate guide by neighborhood.

The wine bar scene in Miami is as busy as it is diverse. Whether you’re a natural wine drinker, or searching for classic Bordeaux (at a reasonable price!), there’s a spot for you in the Magic City. This guide is the first edition of our attempt at creating the ultimate guide – where you can find a place for a glass of wine that suits your style, and your location. The second edition will come next year, and we welcome recommendations of hidden gems and new openings. For now, though, this list should keep wine lovers happy – and busy. Enjoy!

MIAMI BEACH

Water Lion Wine & Alchemy

Water Lionm Wine + Alchemy
Water Lion is the cozy chic Miami Beach wine bar you need to visit.

Water Lion is a wine lover’s oasis on the cocktail island of Miami Beach. You may miss this spot if you aren’t looking carefully, as it’s tucked behind the front desk in the lobby of the Sagamore hotel on Collins Avenue, slightly north of Lincoln Road.

Owners, Abbe Diaz and Filip Trajkovic, have created a space with chill vibes, chic décor, and a low-key ambience to enjoy a glass or bottle from their eclectic collection.

With wine in hand, you will feel miles away from the hustle of Collins Avenue or Lincoln Road.

Don’t forget to try a bite from their small snack menu, created by Filip himself!

Hours: Daily from 4PM-11:45PM

The Sagamore, 1671 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Got Wine?

Got Wine? takes a concept that is familiar in London, and brings it to Miami Beach. This is perfect for anyone keen to explore wine: Its ‘enomatic’ wine tasting machines allow you to sample portions, or full glasses, of around 30 different wines. Simply purchase a tasting card of any value, which works a bit like a metro card, and take your glass to the machine.

It also offers a tasty range of tapas to accompany the wine.

Hours: 6pm-Midnight, Tuesday to Saturday.

131 26th St South, Miami Beach, FL 33140

WYNWOOD/DESIGN DISTRICT

Ruka Winewood

Ruka fits right into Wynwood, with its casual outdoor outdoor space and frequent DJ appearances. Brothers Leandro Cabanillas and Nicolas Buompadre work hard at putting together a program of events that range from poetry readings, to yoga, and musicians. Often these are accompanied by pop-ups with local food vendors who take residence in the bar’s very own food truck.

You can read more in our article about Ruka, here

Hours: Open from 6pm Wednesday-Saturday. Happy Hour ($8+ wine by the glass, 20% off food) runs 6-8pm.

51 NE 24th St Unit 104, Miami, FL 33137

Lagniappe

This accurately self-proclaimed New Orleans bar is loved for its live music and wide range of mostly natural wines. Inside, it’s cozy. Outside, it’s vast. The garden must be home to around 150 chairs, and it’s entirely possible that each one is different.

The format is simple and relaxed. You can either pick a bottle off the shelf, or order by the glass at the small indoor bar. The cheese selection is recommended: select your favorites from the fridge, hand them over when you pay, and collect your fully prepared cheese board (complete with bread and jams) ten minutes later.

Hours: Open every night from 6pm. Closes at 3am on Friday & Saturday; 2am on other evenings.

3425 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33137

DOWNTOWN MIAMI & KEY BISCAYNE

Margot Natural Wine Bar

Natural wine is no longer a small, alternative underground movement, as the opening of fashionable Margot in Downtown Miami demonstrates. Here, in the heart of the city, natty orange wines meet chic 1950s décor. This small bar has a long wine list – with options spanning the globe, from Slovenia to California. Many are available by the glass.

Hours: Opens 5pm daily. Closes 12am Sun-Thurs; 1am Fri-Sat.

Ingraham building Downtown Miami. 25 SE 2nd Ave #700. Miami, FL 33131

Vinya Key Biscayne

Vinya Key Biscayne has a vast and impressive range of wines selected by sommelier Allegra Angelo. These range from classic Europeans to exciting natural wines from South America (don’t miss the Michelini I Mufatto Certezas Semillon which has gained a reputation as one of Argentina’s great whites).

Happily, you can take any bottle from the shelf and pay $15 corkage to enjoy it at the table – an ideal end to a long beach day on the key. The food menu is smart, too, with a range of small bites and full plates.

Watch out for regular events in the bar’s back room – always listed on the WGM events page.

Hours: Opens at 10am daily. Closes 10pm Mon-Weds; 12am Thurs-Sat; 6pm Sun.

328 Crandon Blvd # 122 -123, Key Biscayne, FL 33149

CORAL GABLES / COCONUT GROVE

Vinya Table

Vinya Table on Miracle Mile is the chic wine bar restaurant the Gables always wanted. It’s the perfect place for a corporate lunch or glass of wine at the bar after a day at work.

Vinya’s in-house sommelier, Allegra Angelo, is one of the best in town, and she has curated a top wine list of old and new world favorites along with bottles to be discovered.

Not just for wine-os, foodies will love this spot too. Make sure you save room for a delicious meal to enjoy with your wine when you stop by Vinya Table.

Vinos in the Grove (CLOSED January 2023)

Vinos in the Grove may be small, but it’s a staple neighborhood wine bar for Grovites. This is Miami’s quaint and charming wine bar in the most quaint and charming part of town.

If you stop by Vinos for a glass of something and sit at the bar, you’re sure to run into one of the Grove locals with lots of stories to tell.

Don’t show up here hungry, because the bar only has very small bites to offer (think cheese and crackers). But on certain nights, you can enjoy live music with your wine selection, and bask in the salty sea breeze from nearby Biscayne Bay offering a pure taste of the Miami wine bar lifestyle.

Hours: Tuesday –Thursday, 5PM-10PM

Friday, Saturday, 5PM-12AM

El Carajo

El Carajo is a hidden wine bar located inside a gas station off of US1 just between Brickell and Coconut Grove/Coral Gables.

Once you arrive and see what a special bodega you’ve discovered, you’ll definitely want to stay for the patatas bravas and abondigas.

Pick a bottle (or 2) from the collection on the wall to enjoy with your array of Spanish tapas. Take a moment to pretend like you’re in a secluded bar somewhere in Spain. It’s hard to believe you’re in a gas station in Miami.

Happy Wine Calle Ocho

Pick any wine off the wall, and enjoy it at Happy Wine Calle Ocho for $7 corkage.

Happy Wine is a hybrid of a wine shop, restaurant, bar, and entertainment venue. Its range of wines is vast and well-priced – always better value than the big retailers or supermarkets. Owners JC and Joanna take a non-dogmatic approach to choosing bottles, preferring to make customers – literally – “happy”. This means that there is something for everyone – from natural wine to sweet Pinots.

Food is offered throughout the day, and the menu has seen a recent upgrade, with options including homemade ricotta and tasty croquetas.

The best bit is the combination: Pick any wine off the shelf, pay the retail price plus a $7 corkage fee, and enjoy the wine at your table. This presents a great opportunity for drinking some smart bottles, which would normally see a high mark-up. It satisfies smaller budgets, too, meaning that everyone is welcome.

Practical info: Opens at 10am Monday-Saturday. Happy Hour runs from 3-7pm Monday-Thursday. Live music starts around 7pm Wednesday-Saturday. If you plan to visit at the weekend, it’s best to book a table.
