Sunday School at Small Wine Shop: Portuguese Wine: Sunday 18th, noon @ Small Wine Shop, Fort Lauderdale
“Portugal is a treasure trove of unique wines and grape varieties that are not well known outside the country. However, long ago, the country was at the leading edge of wine technology and can claim one of the world’s first demarcated wine regions (Port since 1757). So, combining the country’s longstanding wine traditions with the cornucopia of indigenous varieties makes Portugal one of the most exciting places for enthusiasts on the hunt for high quality and great value.
Join us for a fun and informative afternoon as Tim takes a deep dive into Portugal to look at where the country stands today in the wine world. Tim will go over the country’s history, notable regions, the grapes grown, and styles of wine made.
What to expect: A super informative, informal class where you can ask all your questions without judgement. You will taste through 6 different wines. We also provide light bites to accompany your wine.”

Blind Ambition Movie and Tasting: Monday 26th, 7pm @ Savor Cinema with Small Wine Shop, Fort Lauderdale
“Join Small Wine Shop at Savor Cinema for a wine tasting and film viewing!
The Film: An inspiring underdog story for the ages. Having escaped starvation and tyranny in their homeland of Zimbabwe, four refugees have conquered the odds to become South Africa’s top sommeliers. Driven by relentless optimism, a passion for their craft and unshakeable national pride, they form Zimbabwe’s first ever wine tasting team and set their sights on the coveted title of ‘World Wine Tasting Champions’. From the moment they arrive in France to compete, this team of mavericks turns an establishment of privilege and tradition on its head. A truly uplifting documentary that celebrates just how irrepressible the human spirit can be.
Wine Tasting will feature South African Wines!”
[Sarah adds: I watched Blind Ambition, and met some of the team, on a recent trip to South Africa. This film is BRILLIANT and so inspiring. Seriously recommend going along to this!]

An unforgettable tasting of Dassai Sakes: Thursday 27th, 7pm @ 305 Wines, Palmetto
“For the artisans behind Dassai, the goal is simple: to craft sake that will “brighten your life”. The pursuit of this humble goal began in the 1980s, in a remote mountain village in western Japan, when the Asahi Shuzo Company decided to focus its efforts on producing high-quality sake, and the Dassai brand was born. Since this pivotal moment, the master brewers have used only one variety of top-quality rice (Yamada-Nishiki) to craft this Junmai-Daiginjo grade sake – the most super premium category in existence.
In this unique and unforgettable event, we will offer you the opportunity to taste the fruits of their endeavour, by tasting Dassai Beyond (a $600 bottle), together with Dassai 23 and a lineup of other high-quality Dassai sakes.
Guilherme de Macedo, MBA, MSS, WSET Certified Sake educator will lead the tasting.”
