Well, plenty of us did see this coming. But perhaps we’re surprised at the national recognition.
When I moved to Miami in January 2019, I was told more than a few times that I’d miss the wine world in London. It’s certainly a high bar: London has one of the most vibrant wine scenes in the world. Imagine my relief, then, to discover an exciting, emerging, wine world in my new city. This prompted me to enter the Jancis Robinson wine writing competition in 2019 with the entry Miami for Wine Lovers. It won.
My other observation was that it wasn’t easy to figure out where to go, which events to attend, and who to meet in the Miami wine world. I relied on a handful of new friends to keep me in the loop. A newsletter would have been useful, but I hadn’t really been around long enough to write anything authoritative.
At the end of 2021, my friend Jacqueline Coleman, a wine writer (who is actually from Miami!) agreed to join me in this project. We hope that the website, and its newsletter, will be a useful resource for wine lovers in, and visiting, the Magic City.
